A mela.de.gypsie Christmas

And just like that, Christmas 2012 is Christmas Past. But why should we even stop the celebrating? It still feels like Christmas stretches on to even until the New Year comes. I guess when Christmas leftovers start becoming last year's leftovers is when we know is the season for celebration (and excessive guilt-free gorging) should stop.

I've to say I'm pretty proud of my cards, my heart does a happy dance whenever I examine them. When I first sent them to the printer I was

Look, It's Snowing!

As much as it can in tropical Singapore. Spoiler alert: It's fake snow (figures). Although I'd have to say that silver confetti falls very prettily.

These were some of the outtakes from the last part of my postcard shoot, taken when I was going for that perfect image. Thought they all looked good together in an animated gif. I am very thankful for a good-natured model and great assistants! All-in-all, it was ultimately rewarding.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU

Hannah :: The many faces of...

All babies are significant miracles of life, and such a precious gift to families. To her parents, Margaret and Nam Heng, baby Esther was that; a miracle, God's answer to their prayers, a gift that was made exponentially more precious through their patient waiting.

I wouldn't say that I know the complete nature of all the babies of the world, but I would like to think that I have seen my fair share of kids to say that Esther was a very easy baby to work with, she even let me carry

30 at Madnest

The end of year is nigh!!!

I usually say that with a heavy lilt of panic in my voice whenever December rolls around each year. However, things seem a little different this time round! All of my heavy backlog has been finished, which frees me to concentrate on personal projects, like figuring out how to use the new film scanner I bought this year (exciting, I know). Even my marketing postcards are nearly ready and all that is needed is to collect the printables and start the

Uyii Life :: A Lookbook Photostory

At first glance, what Uyii Bags represents seems to go against what people may view as a lucrative business in the local context. While other companies are striving to lower their bottom lines and increase their profit margins, what Uyii is more concerned with is making sure all their bags adhere to their philosophy of promoting locally handmade products.

When I first met Liping and Benny at their studio, Uyii was in the midst of their second year of operations, and their bags

The Mobile Photographer :: Lines, Patterns

The weekend is here!!!

I know it sounds sad, but sometimes I am cooped up in the office so much in the work week that when Saturday rolls around it feels as if I've escaped from prison.

My weekends tend to be packed, I try to squeeze every second's worth of activities out if there isn't a shoot happening. If I find myself lazing around, I tend to feel guilty. One of the reasons that lend towards my loathe of time-wastage is that I live in a city that has so many

Hannah :: First Month Baby and Family Session

It's always lovely to be able to share in the joy of friends, especially when the joy comes in a bundle of cute. I photographed Eunice and Alvin's engagement nearly four years ago, and their journey just opened a new chapter with the arrival of Hannah. Even though the session was short, I love that I was able to capture the dynamics of their new family nucleus, and the unique way of how Alvin displays his fatherly love.

I dare say we might be seeing more of Hannah on these pages

Just a Peek :: Hello there, Bright Eyes

Happy Hump Day to you all! Sometimes we just need something to break the monotony of work within the week, and I am more than happy to provide some sweet relief!

There's a whole beautiful story of faith and long-suffering regarding the wait for Esther, which I will share when it is finally time to reveal the entire set of photos. For now, I would just like to simply share that this bright-eyed baby is just one of the fruits of God's immense love for those who

SOLILOQUY :: Oh look! A lookbook!

This post is just to show how well and alive-and-kicking I am. It seems like I had been swallowed up by the surface of the earth but the contrary is true, I assure you. What I have been involved in is just alot more work coming from all directions. Travelling has died down and I'm using the time to catch up on all my post-processing.

So far, it's been babies, babies, a lookbook, wedding, engagement, babies, and did I mention babies? I'm sure you've seen the sneak peek before in all

Just A Peek :: Hannah

Meet Hannah.

I find it quite amazing that I already got pretty acquainted with her through her parents for nine months before she was ready to meet face-to-face. This was taken at Alvin and Eunice's home when she turned a month old. I assure you that there will be more adorableness to

Shaun + Wenai :: The Couch Potato Engagement Session

It was an absolute pleasure to have been able to work at Shaun and Wenai's wedding the past weekend. Like every wedding I've worked for friends, it always feels like the journey comes full circle. So, as I commence with editing their wedding photos, let me delight you with some of my favourites taken from their couch potato engagement shoot in March.

Shaun and Wenai, congratulations on your union. It was a joy to have been able to witness it, and I wish you many blessings on your

Shaun + Wenai :: A Tale of Two Couch Potatoes

Remember that photo I showed as a sneak of a couch and a TV on the shoreline? That was the last location of the set that we put together for Shaun and Wenai's engagement shoot.

When we were going through concepts for their engagement session, Shaun was pretty clear that he wanted to depict his fiancé, Wenai, and himself as couch potatoes in movie poster images printed on the backs of postcards, reason being that watching movies at home is their all-time favourite thing to do

Basically presents :: Three's a Crowd

Yes! Basically is already holding our 3rd official session this Friday, 22 June, at Broun.

Needless to say, I'd be there photographing the event. So if you're free you should definitely drop by. We have quite a good line-up for this quarter with most of our guest speakers focusing on social work. We also have invited photographer Samuel He to talk about his latest project so if you like work that has strong roots in photojournalism, he is one speaker to

Kids Photography :: The Angels & A Fuzzy Peach

It just so happened that the elements were perfect that Saturday morning when I decided to snap a few photos of my nieces. They were both in a good mood, the sun filtered really evening in the dining room, and Angelica decided that a peach made the most precious commodity and would only let it go for her older sister, Seraphina.

Dare you tell me they don't look adorable clutching that

Lessons in Life and Origami

I know, I know! It has been quite a while since I blogged, a faraway friend thought this space was either dead or that I haven't been working on any material. Truth is that there have been a couple of exciting ongoing projects which probably might not be wise to speak about at this moment, but believe me when I say that I have been itching to share them!

On another alternate reality, I was feeling a tad nostalgic. Another friend

The Mobile Photographer :: Cloud Catching, Skyline Seeking

I have been withholding writing this article for some time, mostly because there has been plenty of debate between various photographers, be it on blogs or forums, on whether Instagram images can truly be considered as "photography". However, I have come to realise why mobile photography has become so relevant to the modern-day photographers. Hence, the release of this article...

Admittedly, I am hugely obsessed with all sorts of photo apps. As an Android user, I had been playing

Jenny + Munwai :: The Joy That Matters

If you are familiar with wedding planning, or even regular viewing of the variety of wedding blogs that are available today, you'd know that it is sometimes so easy to get lost in all the details. I have to admit that as a photographer I tend to get caught up in looking for all the pretty things, although I think belonging to the fairer sex contributes strongly towards that.

Then I photographed Jenny and Munwai's wedding dinner party. Called exactly that because all they wanted was

I miss the rains down in Africa...

At this very moment, I am (or should be) packing furiously for my trip to South Africa!

I'm excited because it's my first long vacation in this scale in eons!!! Sure, I've taken short trips here and there (mostly tagged with work trips too), but nothing beats flying far, far away to somewhere that is entirely unfamiliar and immersing yourself in the people, places and culture there.

Travel has become integral to me as a photographer. Think of it, like a refreshing of

An Overcast Day at Robben Island

"While we will not forget the brutality of Apartheid, we will not want Robben Island to be a monument of our hardship and suffering. We would want it to be a triumph of the human spirit against the forces of evil. A triumph of of wisdom and largeness of spirit against small minds and pettiness; a triumph of courage and determination over human frailty and weakness; a triumph of the new South Africa over the old." - Ahmed Kathrada

Just as most would think of the word "apartheid"

JUST A PEEK :: A Static Life

Without giving away too much, and also wanting a short break from vacation photos, here is a sneak peek of a recent engagement shoot I did. I'm afraid this is about as much as I'm allowed to reveal for now.

Something familiar... yet something new...

Something dreamy... yet something real...

Something cosy depicting life as it should

Je suis bohème

Just allow me this moment of vanity, alright?

I've had this amazing colour(s) for about a couple of weeks now, and I'm trying to fight fading as much as possible. All credit goes to Max from HaarAttic, he does great work. I sent this to him and yours truly is now on the gallery of his website!

Oh, vanity of vanities.

Looking out from Cape Point

It has been a while since I had pure azure engulf my sights. Cape Point made me reminiscent of Western Australia, only there seemed to be more depth in both colour and landscape, but I guess that is how it is when you are comparing something from a fading memory to what is right before you.

What I knew about Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope was what was taught in the textbooks, and it overwhelms me when I think that what I am seeing is a geography lesson brought to

The Lion Sleeps Tonight

I have come to the conclusion that lions are indeed majestic creatures. Even behind barricades and fences. Now I know why they call them a pride of lions.

In this post, you will find yourselves in Gaborone, Botswana, where I continued on the second leg of my African journey. I'm such a city dweller, and cannot even remember when was the last time I've been to the zoo. So finding myself in front of the king of beasts literally took my breath away, I don't recall being this up close

Chasing Sunsets & Tangible Dreams

Six years ago, the thought of going to Africa was contained to just that, a mere thought. Something mentioned in passing to try and seal the bond of long distance friendships. The occasional conversation starter when people talk of travel - Africa: The continent less traveled, the land of zulu dreams.

I would never have guessed that courteous assent towards the topic would someday turn out to be a tangible dream.

Now, those friendships no longer remain ghosts of my

Hello, My Name is Amelia

What might also transpire within these virtual pages would be me. Me, namely, my ramblings, writings, inspirations, some random poetry… am I scaring you off already?
